The craftsmanship of metal scrolls is very important for a quality iron door. The excellent metal scrolls can catch your eyes at first sight; they are truly hand-forged solid steel by a skillful blacksmith but not produced by machine, consistently smooth and go naturally. The thickness of the metal scroll varied from 14mm to 25mm, and 16mm is the most popular thickness.
The slab and the jamb of the iron entry doors are always injected with polyurethane foam, which can save on energy costs. The injected polyurethane foam can insulate as much as 50% better than the traditional insulated items.
Try to knock at the jamb or the slab of the door; it is injected if the entry door sounds solid; it is not injected if it sounds hollow.
Most iron door manufacturers will not supply locks and handle with the doors together; they only offer one or two locks as their standard. Of course, if you like, you can use the standard lock with handles the iron door manufacturer supplied. But if you want to customize your iron door, the lock and handle will be the regardless part. There are many styles of locks and handles for choices in the market. You can choose one and send the sample to the manufacturers for predrilling holes.
Most of the time, we enter our home by just opening one leaf door; another leaf door will keep stationary there like fixed, called an inactive door leaf. It is because a flush bolt is installed in the inactive door leaf for the double door. The flush bolt can ease the impact when closing the active door, thus protecting the door hinges on the inactive door leaf. And it can also protect the lock, especially on those stormy days; the lock will be damaged heavily by the storm if a double entry door is not installed with a flush bolt.
Mounting tabs are pre-welded on the jamb for installation standardly, there are 5 mounting tabs in a single door, and there are 6 or more mounting tabs in a double door. The more mounting tabs, the tighter installation you can do.
As you know, there is a small gap between the two door leaves in a double door, and another small gap between the door leaf and the jamb in a single door, a roller catch with spring is always installed there to keep the door closed better.
A quality iron door should be sealed well by the weatherstrip, around the glass panel, around the door frame, and between the 2 door leaves for a double door. Sealed these 3 places tightly to avoid energy leakage.
An adjustable door sweep is a narrow strip installed on the bottom of the door leaf to cover the gap between the door and the threshold, which protects your home against water, energy loss, pests, and unwanted intruders.
The slope threshold is integrated with the door frame; it is 1 1/4″ high with a fall to 1/2″ outside. The integrated threshold ensures the door is square and stable, and the slope provides that the water will shed outside when raining.
Let more sunlight in while keeping higher energy efficiency is essential for an entry door.
